There are several reasons why you may want to travel to Bangladesh along with a set of documents that requires Bangladeshi embassy legalization from the Bangladeshi embassy in Washington DC.

In a brief, I am going to explain for all of you, who want to make your documents recognizable abroad whatever the type of your document,

Whether you’re a businessman and want to expand your business abroad having several corporate documents to be authenticated, or an individual who would like to be able to use his personal documents in Bangladesh.

What are the different forms of authentication?

Well first, let me inform you that there are two types of authentications; each depends on the country of destination requirements.

Apostille is the easiest and it is a seal that you can obtain from the Secretary of State OR U.S. Department of State (for Federal documents).

And it is acceptable and recognized by numerous countries called “Hague Convention participating countries”. See the list of Hague participating countries.

On the other token, there are several other non-Hague participating countries; which will require another and more complicated type of authentication called Embassy legalization.

Bangladesh is a non-Hague participant country and requires the Bangladesh embassy legalization on documents destined for use in Bangladesh.

The Bangladeshi embassy in Washington DC provides this type of authentication but as with any other embassy legalization,

it will require to be authenticated from the Secretary of State and then forwarded to the U.S. Department of State in order to be authenticated before obtaining the Bangladesh legalization from the Embassy in Washington DC.

Embassy legalization, in general, is a tiring process as it requires several authentications from various entities in order to be able to use a single document in a particular non-Hague participant country.

Requirements to obtain the Bangladesh embassy legalization:

1. Filled in the application form for attestation of document/ attestation of Power of Attorney (Form–C), 1 (one) copy

2. Fees for each document, $ 44.00 (REGULAR — 2–5 working days), $ 82.50 (URGENT — one working day/ same day), in the form of a money order/cashier check payable to the Embassy of Bangladesh. Cash or personal check is not accepted.

3. Original Document and photocopy of the original document

4. In case of any property related document, Proof of property ownership (Copy of mutation, succession/deed- RS, CS & BS)

5. 2 (two) photographs of principals and 2 (two) photographs of the attorney are to be attached for verification by the Embassy. Photographs (both i.e., principal and attorney) must be passport size, color with white background, taken recently within the last six months.

6. Photocopies of the valid / expired hand-written Bangladesh Passport (1–7 pages) OR Machine-Readable Passport (1–3 pages)

7. Any US photo ID such as Driver’s License.

8. Copy of court order in case of the name change.

Bear in mind, the above-mentioned costs are only for the Bangladeshi embassy but there are several other costs for secretary of state, and U.S. Department of State authentications, in addition to the mailing fees.

You may send your document to a third-party agency to minimize the fees, one of the most suitable in terms of prices is US Legalization as they provide several advantages; one of them is FedEx for the shipping and return of your document at half price if you deliver it on your own.
